A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF POSTER, VIDEO, AND GAME-BASED EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONS ON DENTAL CARIES KNOWLEDGE AMONG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN

Background: Dental caries remains a significant public health problem among elementary school children in Indonesia, with a high prevalence in both rural and urban areas. Effective educational strategies are needed to improve children’s knowledge and preventive behaviors related to oral health. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of various educational media in improving knowledge of dental caries risk factors among elementary school children. Materials and Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test design was conducted among 120 students aged 10–12 years selected using cluster sampling from rural and urban schools in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Participants were divided into seven groups based on the educational media received: posters, leaflets, videos, hand puppets, flipcharts, puzzles, and snakes and ladders.
