Background: Reproductive health issues, particularly those related to personal hygiene during menstruation, are associated with the occurrence of vulvar pruritus among adolescent girls.
Research Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between personal hygiene measures during menstruation and the incidence of vulvar pruritus among students at Pencawan Vocational School, Medan.
Method: This study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all 10th-grade female students at SMK Pencawan Medan, with 82 respondents selected through a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were a questionnaire assessing personal hygiene and a checklist for vulvar pruritus. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test.
Research Results: The study findings showed that 32 respondents (49%) practiced good personal hygiene practices, and 51 respondents (62.2%) experienced vulvar pruritus. Chi-square test results showed a significant association (p=0.000) between personal hygiene practices during menstruation and the incidence of vulvar pruritus.
Conclusion: The better personal hygiene practices during menstruation, the lower the likelihood of vulvar pruritus. This study is expected to serve as a reference for adolescents, schools, and health institutions to improve reproductive health education.
