FORMULASI SEDIAAN MASKER GEL EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN KELOR (Moringa oleifera Lam) DENGAN VARIASI KONSENTRASI HPMC (Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose)

Gel masks are cosmetic products that provide care for facial skin. Damage to facial skin can be caused, among other things, by free radicals. Compounds that can neutralize free radicals are antioxidants. Natural antioxidants can be found in various plant parts that contain secondary metabolites, such as moringa leaves. Moringa leaves are plants that contain antioxidants effective in eliminating free radicals and preventing body damage caused by them. HPMC is a common gel base used in gel formulations. This study aimed to determine the effect of HPMC at concentrations of 0%, 3%, 5%, and 7% on the physical properties of moringa leaf ethanol extract gel mask preparations, and to identify the best HPMC concentration for formulating a gel mask preparation.
This experimental laboratory study employed a post-test design, where physical tests were conducted. These included organoleptic testing, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, irritation, and hedonic (preference) tests.
The results showed that the moringa leaf gel mask was semi-solid, dark green, and had a characteristic moringa leaf odor. The pH ranged from 5.47-6.21, it was homogeneous, and the viscosity ranged from 1726-4432 cPs. It caused no irritation, and the formulation with a 5% HPMC concentration was the most preferred
preparation. It is concluded that moringa leaves can be formulated into a gel mask preparation, and the concentrations that meet the physical evaluation requirements for the preparation are 3% and 5%
